A kaleidoscope of styles at the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, Linda & Lee Scott Performance Hall.
A kaleidoscope of styles is presented by the Pittsburg Summer Chamber Players including: Joanne Britz, Barbara York, Noey De Leon, Daniel McDill, Daniel Warlop and Michael Walker.
The 5th Edition of the Pittsburg Chamber Music festival will take place on June 6 - 10. The Festival is sponsored by Pittsburg State University, PSU Music Department, The Bicknell Family Center for the Arts, and the artists who donate their time, talent, and love for this institution. Since its first edition, the festival has provided a cultural outlet to the community during the summer months. All events are free and open to the public.
This year, the festival will open on Tuesday June 6 at 8:15 p.m. with an outdoor concert in front of the Bicknell Center (Bring lawn chairs). The Pittsburg Summer Band directed by Dr. Doug Whitten will gather current PSU students, faculty, community members, and alumni in the region presenting a fun, entertaining program that will include: movie music, Pop music, band classical's, and marches. Come early and enjoy an amazing Food Truck meal from Maggie's Curbside Cafe.
On Wednesday June 7 at 7:30 p.m., the Linda & Lee Scott Auditorium, an eleven hundred seat room, will becomes an intimate space when the audience is seated around the performers on the main stage. Kaleidoscope of styles will include faculty and graduate students presenting works from the 20th & 21st century.
On Thursday June 8 at 7:30 p.m., Dr. Susan Marchant will present an organ recital in the Sharon Kay Dean Recital Hall performing works for solo organ as well as chamber setting.
On Friday June 9 we will have two events: 7:30 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church (306 W Euclid) Dr. Denissa Rivas de Munguía will present a Flute Lecture Recital titled: The Other Half: Meeting Women Composers through Flute Music. And for the first time, 'Festival After Hours' A different type of concert will be held in the lobby of the Bicknell Center. At 10:00 p.m. when local bands will take turn performing their original work.
The festival will come to a close on Saturday, June 10 at 8:15 with another outdoor concert. This time under the direction of Mr. Robert Kehle and the Summer Kicks Jazz Band. Maggie's Curbside Cafe food truck will also join us in case you feel like eating under the stars with some great jazz tunes in the background.
