The Southeast Kansas Symphony will be joined by choirs from the university and community for a program titled "An American Requiem."
Featured works on the program will include:
"Lux Aeterna," by Morten Lauridsen
"Berceuse and Finale" (from "Firebird Suite"), by Igor Stravinsky
"Prayers and Remembrances," by Stephen Paulus
This program explores grief and renewal in both their intimacy and their universality: Lauridsen’s choral cycle "Lux Aeterna" was written during his mother’s final illness, while Paulus’s "Prayers and Remembrances" was commissioned in 2011 for the 10th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack that brought down the towers of the World Trade Center. The Paulus work won the 2016 Grammy Award for Best Classical Composition.
