BICKNELL CENTER PRESENTS
PSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo
The PSU Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Combo are groups comprised of students in a variety of majors who bring to life standards of the past as well as contemporary works in many styles, from Big Band to jazz rock, under the direction of PSU Professor Bob Kehle.
PSU Wind Ensemble
The PSU Wind Ensemble is the premier wind band at Pittsburg State University, open by audition to the finest wind and percussion players in Music Department. The group performs a variety of works, from classical to contemporary, under the direction of PSU Associate Professor Andrew Chybowski.
PSU Opera Theatre
PSU Opera Theatre produces two productions annually, with at least one that is fully staged with orchestral accompaniment. Repertoire is diverse, from traditional operas by Mozart to cabaret style evenings devoted to the works of American musical theatre composers. Productions are directed by PSU Instructor Patrick Howle.
PSU Symphonic Band
The PSU Symphonic Band is offered in the spring semester, open to all students who wish to participate in a musical ensemble regardless of their major. Concerts feature a variety of music, from marches and Broadway medleys to some of the finest serious music composed for this medium, under the direction of PSU Assistant Professor Doug Whitten.
Southeast Kansas Symphony at PSU
Founded at PSU in 1915 by Walter McCray, the man for whom the music building would be named, the Southeast Kansas Symphony still is going strong. With four major performances each year by students, faculty, and community members under the direction of Assistant Professor Raul Munguia, its goal is to be an integral part of the culture of Southeast Kansas.
Pitt State Theatre
The Pitt State Theatre Company presents a variety of theatrical works throughout the academic year at the Studio Theater in Grubbs Hall and at the Dotty and Bill Miller Theatre in the Bicknell Family Center for the Arts. Productions are directed by PSU Communication faculty including Assistant Professor Gil Cooper, Instructor Linden Little, Associate Professor Megan Westhoff, and Professor Emeritus Cynthia Allan.
PSU Dance
Students in the Department of Health, Human Performance and Recreation working toward a Dance minor, which includes a Certificate in Dance, share their talents in an annual Dance Showcase on our stage.
